At the most recent Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix, Ingenico Group announced the debut of its payment method Alipay for its long-time client Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer (SBM). Events entail a need for mobile payments, so the system used included iSMP3 terminals and Axis omnichannel payment solution.
Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer, leader in luxury tourism in Europe and key partner for major events in the Principality of Monaco, wanted to add Alipay to its payment-application portfolio; Alipay is a very popular payment method among Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer’s Chinese clients. With the support of Ingenico Group and BNP Paribas, the acquiring bank of Alipay (the largest Chinese mobile payment and services platform operated by Ant Financial Services Group) in France and Monaco, Monte-Carlo Société des Bains de Mer began offering this payment method at the most recent Formula 1 Monaco Grand Prix.
The product of collaboration between Ingenico, Monte-Carlo Société de Bains de Mer and Alipay, this pilot deployment enabled Monte-Carlo Société de Bains de Mer to offer Chinese tourists a better purchasing experience and to grow its revenue. The launch was also the prelude to a broader roll-out of Alipay within Ingenico’s client portfolio.
This success shows that Ingenico is able to support its partners in the roll-out of the Alipay platform, in terms both of handling very tight deadlines and of fully integrating the service into merchants’ existing electronic-payment systems.
